Visually impaired students using Voiceover, can now use EasyReader to read PDFs titles, downloaded from RNIB Bookshare. Please be aware that this feature is exclusive, to RNIB Bookshare Users. To find out more, visit RNIBBookshare.org.
To start reading with EasyReader, first, login into RNIB Bookshare, and choose a PDF title to download.
Using EasyReader, there a 3 ways to read the PDF.
The first option, is where EasyReader reads the PDF, in its original print layout. Use EasyReader’s play and navigation buttons, at the bottom of the screen, to hear the PDF using the EasyReader voices.
The second option is to read the same PDF, in EasyReader’s text view mode. To switch to the Text view, select the Book Options button, at the top right of screen, then select the “Switch to Text view” option, in the drop-down menu. This provides a simplified text only layout, without the distractions of print formatting and images.
The third option is to read the PDF with VoiceOver, which is better suited to the Text View mode. To switch Voiceover on, press the home button 3 times at the bottom of your device.
You’ll now be able to use the same Voiceover controls, to navigate and read your book. Tap once on the screen, to select the text with the voiceover cursor. Hold with one finger, and swipe to the right to move to the next item on the screen, and hold and swipe one finger to the left, to go back to the previous item.
Once you have found the item you want, swipe down with two fingers, to start reading with VoiceOver.
