The last two days at Dolphin, all UK employees in a technical role have attended a practical and bespoke training session delivered by James Townsend from Royal National Institute for Blind People (RNIB). James is an experienced Accessibility Consultant from RNIB and an International Association of Accessibility Professionals (IAAP) Certified Professional. He provided expert training and ran hands-on test sessions with the team that focused on digital accessibility standards and guidelines, diagnosing digital accessibility issues, and creating accessibility assessment reports.

At Dolphin, continuous learning is a core company value. Even as digital accessibility experts, we prioritise refreshing our accessibility testing skills and ensure our team is knowledgeable on current global legislation and best practices. This training session provided valuable opportunities to hone our expertise and ensure our technical team's knowledge is up-to-date.

Belle Crisp has recently joined Dolphin as a software tester after completing a master’s degree in Disability, Design and Innovation which focused on research, accessible technology and inclusive design skills. Belle said “the training will improve my use of automated tools for testing against WCAG and allow me to provide more detail in my defect reports. The advice on how RNIB format accessibility audit reports was also really helpful to know and will help with formatting my test reports.”

The Dolphin software developers and testers all maintain advanced accessibility testing and evaluation skills to create products that are accessible and compliant. This expertise also means we are able to provide custom mapping and scripting services that enhance the usability and accessibility of third-party applications. The bespoke course was planned with Mike Hill, our Chief Technology Officer, who commented: “This course was well-delivered and thorough.  In addition to cementing what we already knew, this course brought us right up to date with the latest WCAG guidelines and best practices. It helped us explore the importance and effects of accessibility and inclusion for everyone, and we'll use what we learned as a group to improve all Dolphin software and make a real difference to our customers.”

We extend our thanks to James and recommend RNIB for this bespoke training. It was invaluable and enjoyable.
